What North Jersey homeowners ask us most before booking a new AC installation.

AC sizing is based on a Manual J heat load calculation — your home's square footage, insulation quality, ceiling height, window area, sun exposure, and layout all factor in. This is not something that should be eyeballed. An oversized unit will short-cycle, leaving your home humid and uncomfortable. An undersized unit runs constantly and can't keep up on hot days. We do the calculation before recommending anything.
A standard central AC replacement is typically 4-6 hours — most homeowners are cool by the same evening. New installations where ductwork modifications are needed may take a full day or a day and a half. Ductless mini-split installations vary by the number of zones but a single-zone install is usually done in 4-5 hours. We give you a realistic timeline at the assessment so you can plan accordingly.
Yes, but ductwork installation is a significant additional cost and construction project. For homes without ducts, we typically recommend ductless mini-split systems as the more practical solution — they require no major construction, can be installed in a day, and provide superior room-by-room temperature control. We'll assess your home and give you an honest comparison of both options before you decide.
SEER2 (the current standard) measures seasonal efficiency. The federal minimum for New Jersey is 14.3 SEER2. We generally recommend 16-18 SEER2 for most North Jersey homes — the efficiency gain over a 15-year lifespan pays back the upfront cost difference in energy savings. Going beyond 20 SEER2 has diminishing returns in our climate and the price premium rarely makes sense for typical residential use.
